Moscow: With 13.8 billion cubic metres of gas supplied to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline in the first 11 months of 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Friday that Russia has become one of China’s top exporters of oil and gas.
Putin began a video call with Chinese President Xi Jinping with a statement that said, “According to this year’s findings, Russia has become one of the leaders in oil exports to China.”
The leading crude supplier to China, Saudi Arabia, was surpassed by Russia last month.
Putin further added that Russia was China’s fourth-largest supplier of liquefied natural gas and its second-largest provider of pipeline gas (LNG). He claimed that shipments had exceeded daily contractual obligations by 18% in December.
Russian energy exports to China have increased significantly since Moscow sent its armed forces into Ukraine on February 24. After that, Western nations imposed sanctions on Russia.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, this year saw a 64% increase in value and a 10% increase in volume of Russia’s energy exports to China.
